Hotel Apollo ***
Agia Marina Aegina
Hotel Apollo is situated in Aegina, which is the nearest island to Athens the renowned jewel of the Saronic Gulf. Its port with the fine Neoclassical buildings is dominated by the sight of the famous ancient column of the temple of the god Apollo, a reminder of the times the island had been the greatest naval force of Hellas. Today a walk from the fish-market to the house of N.Kazantzakis is worthwhile. The hotel is surrounded by meditative silence and is enriched with the sound of bells from the nearby church and chapels, waves lapping on the gulf shore and the gentle purring of a fishing boat as it glides to the little port of this fishing village.
